Popeyes planned for Canton

CANTON – A Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is slated to open in Canton along Route 44.

A pad site at the 101 Albany Turnpike location was approved as part of a 2018 development plan for the site, which includes the ALDI location that opened in the fall of 2020.

Phil Doyle, of Landscape Architectural Design Associates (LADA), recently filed a Zoning Development Application for minor modifications to the site plan to accommodate the 2,575 square-foot restaurant with drive-thru. The plan calls for 18 parking spaces and 34 seats for the restaurant, as well as some site improvement features, such as lighting, bike racks, benches and plantings.

While there are a few additional steps needed – such as a building permit – before work could begin - Richard Brownstein, principal and manager of Canton Realty, LLC estimates the project should be completed by year’s end.

While Brownstein said he can’t yet divulge the franchisee, he said Popeyes was great to work with and was willing to conform to the town’s design aesthetic.

He also feels it will help generate traffic for the ALDI site as well as the neighboring parcels.

“I think it will be a good fit there,” Brownstein said.

He said Canton Realty is also interested in being a good neighbor and said it has been great working with the town.
